Welcome bonus: what a first deposit offer is really worth
The welcome bonus is the offer you meet first and the one most players take without much thought. It usually matches a percentage of the first deposit, sometimes spread over several deposits as a welcome package, sometimes topped up with free spins. Whether it helps you depends on lines below the banner. This page explains the common structures, how to claim correctly and how to decide whether to say yes. It does not describe Platiin's current welcome offer — its percentage, cap and multiplier are in the operator's promotions page and bonus terms (example amounts here are in euros; the maths is the same in any currency).
Three common structures
| Structure | How it works | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Single first deposit bonus | One match on deposit one | Cap, multiplier, base |
| Welcome package | Matches on deposits one to three or four | Separate terms for each step |
| Match plus free spins | Bonus money and spins on named slots | Spin value and max win on spins |
Sticky or non-sticky
This one distinction decides how the bonus behaves when you win early.
- Non-sticky (sometimes called a parachute bonus): real money and bonus money sit in separate balances and real money is played first. If you win before touching the bonus, you can usually forfeit the bonus and withdraw.
- Sticky: the balances are combined, wagering applies to everything, and the bonus amount itself is removed when you cash out. Only the winnings above it are yours.
Terms rarely use these words; look for phrases like "real money is used first", "bonus funds are non-withdrawable" or "the bonus amount will be deducted on withdrawal".
Worked example: €80 deposit, 100% match
Assume a 100% match up to €200, a 30x requirement on bonus only, 21 days, max bet €4, slots at 100% weighting and an average 96% RTP.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Deposit / bonus | €80 / €80 |
| Required stakes | €80 × 30 = €2,400 |
| Daily pace over 21 days | about €115 a day |
| Spins at €0.80 | 3,000 spins in total |
| Expected loss at 4% | €96 |
| Average result vs. no bonus | −€16 |
Worked example — not a Platiin term. RTP and all limits are assumptions.
On these numbers the bonus slightly lowers your average result and ties up your money for three weeks. Cut the multiplier to 20x and the average turns to +€16. That is why the multiplier, not the percentage, decides the verdict. The method is explained step by step on wagering requirements.
How to claim without mistakes
- Read the offer's terms and the general bonus terms before registering.
- Check that your chosen payment method qualifies; some e-wallets and prepaid vouchers are excluded.
- At the deposit step, confirm the bonus is selected — or deselected if you do not want it.
- After the deposit, check the bonus section of your account: amount, requirement and deadline should match the terms.
- Set your stake below the max bet before the first spin.
When declining is the better choice
Say no when the multiplier applies to bonus plus deposit and is above about 20x, when you mainly play table or live games with low weighting, when the deadline is shorter than your normal playing rhythm, or when you may want to withdraw soon. Playing without a bonus means every win is yours immediately. You can still use other offers later — cashback, for example, often comes with lighter conditions; see cashback and the bonus overview. If you are just getting started, our registration guide shows where in the sign-up flow the bonus choice usually appears.
