Slots at Platiin: what to know before you pick one
Slots are the backbone of almost every online casino and, in most cases, the games that bonus offers are designed around. This page sorts the main slot types, explains the two numbers that matter most — return to player and volatility — and ends with a checklist for choosing a slot while wagering a bonus. How many slots Platiin lists, and from which studios, is shown in its lobby; we do not publish figures we cannot verify.
The main slot types
| Type | How wins are formed | Typical bonus treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Classic reels | Three or five reels, a few fixed paylines | Usually counted in full |
| Video slots | Many lines or “ways”, wilds, scatters, free-spin rounds | Usually counted in full; feature buys often barred |
| Cluster and tumbling slots | Groups of matching symbols on a grid; winning symbols drop away | Usually counted in full |
| Hold-and-win games | Locked symbols and respins in a feature round | Usually counted in full; watch the bet cap |
| Progressive jackpots | Part of each stake feeds a growing prize | Often restricted or weighted lower |
Next to slots, many lobbies list crash games — a multiplier climbs until it stops at a random point, and you win if you cashed out before — as well as live casino and table games such as roulette and blackjack. Those are covered on our live casino and table games pages. Bonus terms frequently treat each of these groups differently from slots.
Return to player and volatility
Return to player (RTP) is the share of all stakes a game pays back over a very long run. At 96%, the house keeps 4% of everything staked on average. It says nothing reliable about one session. Volatility describes how the payback is distributed: frequent small wins at the low end, rare large wins at the high end. Both should be listed in the game's rules screen. Note that many slots are released in several RTP versions, so the figure shown in your session is the one that applies.
Why RTP matters more under wagering
Without a bonus, a percentage point of RTP is easy to ignore. With a wagering requirement, it is multiplied by every euro you must stake. Here is the same requirement played on two slots:
| Assumption | Slot A | Slot B |
|---|---|---|
| Stakes needed to clear the bonus | €2,000 | €2,000 |
| Return to player | 94% | 97% |
| Expected cost of wagering | €120 | €60 |
Worked example — not a Platiin term. Example in euros; the maths is the same in any currency. Both RTP values are assumptions.
Three percentage points halve the expected cost. That is why the RTP shown in the rules screen is worth checking on every slot you plan to use for wagering. The full formula is on our wagering requirements page.
Checklist: choosing a slot while a bonus is active
- Eligibility: is the slot on the restricted-games list?
- Weighting: does it count at 100%, or less?
- Bet cap: can you play at a stake comfortably below the maximum allowed?
- RTP: what figure does the rules screen show?
- Features: are feature buys or gamble buttons barred while wagering?
- Volatility: does the game's swing suit the size of your balance and the deadline?
Demo mode and session limits
Most video slots can be opened in a demo mode with play money. A few minutes in demo show you how often small wins appear, what the feature looks like and how fast the balance moves at a given stake — useful context before you commit a budget. What a demo cannot do is predict your real session, because every spin is independent. When you switch to real money, decide on a stake and a number of spins first, for example 150 spins at €0.20, and turn off autoplay so each result stays visible. Account tools such as deposit limits, loss limits and reality checks are explained on our responsible gambling page.
Slots described on this site
Eight titles have their own pages, including Alien Fruits 3, Sweet Samurai and Slime Bonanza. You will find all of them on the games hub. Offers that come as free spins on specific slots are explained in our free spins guide.
